Eris Hicks is a fourth-grade Language Arts teacher at Woodley Elementary school.  She received her Bachelor’s degree from University of Southern Mississippi and a Master’s from William Carey College in Elementary Education.  She has eight years of teaching experience which are in the Hattiesburg Public School District. She has previously taught Language Arts in grades third, fifth, and sixth.

I am honored to be chosen as Woodley’s Teacher of the Year.  This is the most extraordinary honor of my career, and I wish to express my gratitude to my fellow colleagues and students.” Teaching is my favorite thing to do, so being honored for what you “like doing and enjoy doing” is truly a blessing.

I think a huge attribute to having successful results in the classroom is shifting the environment to remediation focused on weakness to mediation that develops strengths. The learning process will become more of a joy and less of a chore.
