Librarians are always looking for way to attract their student's attention and to promote eager interaction with the collection while enabling them to feel successful in all their reading endeavors. In order to do this, they employ three engaging components: novelty, variety and choice. On December the 6th, all the librarians in the Hattiesburg Public School District set out to Madison, MS with one simple mission: Get more books for the students to read. Upon returning, Mrs. Seal, librarian at Woodley, allowed the 10 top AR readers to be the first to have a look at the new additions. They were also allowed to each hand pick which books would first be cataloged into the system. "Allowing the students to have ownership of the collection open doors and allows them to have a connection with the subject matter. Not to mention it foster pride for their school's library and the materials in it." Mrs. Washington, one of the 5th grader teachers, avidly encourages her students to read daily. She was also invited, by student's request, to explore the new acquisitions.
