The Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. The program's primary objective is prevention and is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership. G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to help them avoid delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems.
Every fifth grade student wrote an essay on "How to Make my School G.R.E.A.T." On December 8, 2011, Hattiesburg Police Department held a G.R.E.A.T graduation for all fifth grade students in the district and presented three students awards from each school. First place winner Isaac Gowdy was awarded a bicycle, second place winner Iyanna Luckett received a plaque and Kris Russell received a medallion for third place. Congratulations!
